The dam, which is on the Solomon Gulch Creek, Solomon R River, was primarily built for Hydroelectric purposes, but also serves for benefits.

The dam was designed by International Eng. Co. and commissioned in 1981 and is currently owned by Copper Valley Electric Association, Inc..
