The dam, which is on the East Copper Creek River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for benefits.

The dam was designed by USDA NRCS and commissioned in 1967 and is currently owned by COOPER CREEK WATERSHED IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT.
