Buchanan Dam Information

Buchanan Dam is a rockfill earth dam located about 16 miles from Chowchilla, Madera, California.

The dam, which is on the Chowchilla River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for Irrigation, Recreation and Hydroelectric benefits.

The dam was designed by and commissioned in 1975 and is currently owned by USACE – Sacramento District.
