The dam, which is on the Kinkaid Creek River, was primarily built for Recreation purposes, but also serves for Water Supply benefits.

The dam was designed by WALTER E. HANSON & CO. and commissioned in 1972 and is currently owned by ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.
