El Dorado Dam Information

El Dorado Dam is an earthen embankment dam located in El Dorado, Butler, Kansas.

The dam, which is on the Walnut River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for Recreation and Water Supply benefits.

The dam was designed by CESWT and commissioned in 1981 and is currently owned by USACE – Tulsa District.

The El Dorado Dam is approximately 20,930 feet (6,379 m) long, 99 feet (30 m) high and has a structural volume of 7,400,000 cubic yards (5,657,707 cubic metres).

El Dorado Dam Storage Capacity & Surface Area

The reservoir has a normal storage capacity of 161,928 acre-ft (199,735 Ml) and maximum capacity of 246,882 acre-ft (304,524 Ml).

The surface area of the reservoir is 8,400 acres (3,399 ha) and the total catchment area is 234 square miles (606 square kilometres).
