The dam, which is on the Gypsum Creek River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for benefits.

The dam was designed by A&E;MID-KANSAS ENG CONSULTANTS, and commissioned in 2006 and is currently owned by WHITEWATER RIVER WJD NO 22.
