Gull Dam Information

Gull Dam is a concrete dam located about 11 miles from Brainerd, Cass, Minnesota.

The dam, which is on the Gull River, was primarily built for Recreation purposes, but also serves for Navigation, Fish and Wildlife Pond, Water Supply and Flood Risk Reduction benefits.

The dam was designed by CEMVP and commissioned in 1912 and is currently owned by USACE – St. Paul District.

Gull Dam Structure

The Gull Dam is approximately 276 feet (84 m) long, 9 feet (3 m) high and has a structural volume of 7,000 cubic yards (5,352 cubic metres).

Gull Dam Storage Capacity & Surface Area

The reservoir has a normal storage capacity of 61,000 acre-ft (75,242 Ml) and maximum capacity of 75,300 acre-ft (92,881 Ml).

The surface area of the reservoir is 13,000 acres (5,261 ha) and the total catchment area is 287 square miles (743 square kilometres).

Gull Dam Spillway

The dam has a 36 feet (11 m) wide controlled spillway with a maximum discharge capacity of 1140 cubic feet per second (32 cubic metres per second).
