The dam, which is on the Running Water Draw River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for Water Supply benefits.

The dam was designed by USDA NRCS and commissioned in 1975 and is currently owned by CENTRAL CURRY SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT.
