The dam, which is on the Middle Branch Moose River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for Recreation benefits.

The dam was designed by and commissioned in 1905 and is currently owned by HUDSON RIVER-BLACK RIVER REGULATING DISTRICT.
