The dam, which is on the West Fork Trinity River, was primarily built for Irrigation purposes, but also serves for Water Supply benefits.

The dam was designed by FREESE AND NICHOLS, INC.;FREESEAND NICHOLS, INC;HAWLEY AND FREESE AND NICHOLS;WSP USA, INC. and commissioned in 1932 and is currently owned by TARRANT REGIONAL WATER DISTRICT.
