The dam, which is on the Big Elm Creek River, was primarily built for Water Supply purposes, but also serves for Other benefits.

The dam was designed by HAWLEY AND FREESE AND NICHOLS and commissioned in 1938 and is currently owned by CITY OF ABILENE.
