The dam, which is on the Little Sandy Creek River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for Recreation benefits.

The dam was designed by FREESE AND NICHOLS;UNKNOWN and commissioned in 1962 and is currently owned by WOOD COUNTY.
