The dam, which is on the Medina River, was primarily built for Irrigation purposes, but also serves for benefits.

The dam was designed by BARTLETT AND RANNEY;URS and commissioned in 1913 and is currently owned by BEXAR MEDINA ATASCOSA COUNTIES WCID 1.
