The dam, which is on the Murvaul Creek (Murvaul Bayou) River, was primarily built for Water Supply purposes, but also serves for Recreation benefits.

The dam was designed by FORREST AND COTTON;KSA ENGINEERS and commissioned in 1956 and is currently owned by PANOLA COUNTY FWSD 1.
