The dam, which is on the Dry Creek River, was primarily built for Flood Risk Reduction purposes, but also serves for Other benefits.

The dam was designed by EBASCO SERVICES INC and commissioned in 1957 and is currently owned by NRG TEXAS POWER LLC.
