The dam, which is on the Tranquitas Creek River, was primarily built for Fire Protection, Stock, Or Small Fish Pond purposes, but also serves for Fish and Wildlife Pond benefits.

The dam was designed by HARKINS ENGINEERING;PEURIFOY & PATTERSON and commissioned in 1938 and is currently owned by KING RANCH INC.
