The dam, which is on the Wheeler Branch River, was primarily built for Irrigation purposes, but also serves for Recreation and Water Supply benefits.

The dam was designed by FREESE AND NICHOLS and commissioned in 2008 and is currently owned by SOMERVELL COUNTY WATER DISTRICT.
